DSLR digital camera for beginners

I’m getting better at my digital photography skills and hubby told me instead of just taking candid shots with my Sony Cybershot T100, it’s time i considering upgrading to a DSLR. I know, but i still like the portability that a compact digital camera provides me. I can just slip it into my waist pouch and walk a round the mall, and capture a few pics without anyone noticing me. If i were to lug a round a DSLR, i think by the time i take that huge thing out, my subject would have disappeared, lol.
Anyway, he did ask me to take a look at the Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens he saw at shopping.com. Since what i have is only a 35mm lens camera, it really cannot do much in really tight spaces. The wide angled 18mm lens of the Canon EOS 400D sounds tempting though. It’s a 10.1 MP camera with superior CMOS resolution that delivers crisp and stunning pictures with superb clarity. Well, Canon digital cameras are well known for that. Hmmm… i’ll have to consider it first.
